NPR Promotes 'We Need Health Reform Now' Mural In DC; Artist Paints Opponents As Abused Little Girl

On Monday night’s All Things Considered newscast on National Public Radio, reporter Joseph Shapiro recounted the sympathetic story of Regina Holliday, who lost her 39-year-old husband Fred to kidney cancer. Holliday painted a mural in Washington demanding "We Need Health Reform Now." (It’s headlined "A Widow Paints a Health Care Protest" and it's the most popular story on Wednesday at NPR.org.)
But Shapiro’s story actually skimmed over just how passionately ideological Holliday’s mural is. She's amazed anyone could possibly be against health reform. On her blog she explained that she painted her opponents as a little girl in a red, white, and blue outfit: "I wondered 'How can you be against this?' Then I realized they were acting like people who have been abused. She is a pretty little girl with welts on her legs..."
On air, NPR stuck to the heart-tugging narrative. The politics emerged late in the story:

MEDICARE PLAGUED BY WASTE, FRAUD, ABUSE
Medicare does not regularly review bills for accuracy and to prevent fraud
Cost savings through reduction of waste, fraud, and abuse in the Medicare system being offered as a key funding source for health care reform currently under consideration on Capitol Hill. Ironically, eliminating this corruption would require Medicare to adopt private-sector reforms, says the Heartland Institute.
- Fraud is rampant and unchecked throughout the Medicare system, while private carriers do a much better job of preventing it.
- Private carriers spend a lot on efforts [to prevent fraud], raising their administrative expenses in the process.
Many Medicare abuses happen in the market for durable medical equipment (DME), such as wheelchairs and oxygen equipment. A draft OIG audit released in August 2008 flagged almost a third of the 2006 DME claims sampled as having been improperly reimbursed.According to a July report by the Government Accountability Office:
- Medicare paid as much as $92 million since 2000 for equipment purportedly prescribed by doctors who were dead.
- Claimants have submitted counterfeit documents, forged doctors' signatures, and filed bills on behalf of patients who were dead or had never been seen by the prescribing physician.

WhiteHouse Attacks Krauthammer’s Washington Post Column Criticizing HCare Bills

While Krauthammer may be pleased to know someone within the White House find his column to be "cogent and well-written," it appears to be business as usual with the Obama administration taking on a media personality head-on. (CNBC's Jim Cramer and Rick Santelli, Fox News Channel's Glenn Beck and conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh are other such examples.)
Pfeiffer took umbrage with the final paragraph of Krauthammer's piece that suggested the "better choice" for health care reform should contain specific components.
"The better choice is targeted measures that attack the inefficiencies of the current system one by one -- tort reform, interstate purchasing and taxing employee benefits," Krauthammer wrote. "It would take 20 pages to write such a bill, not 2,000 -- and provide the funds to cover the uninsured without wrecking both U.S. health care and the U.S. Treasury."
Also, the rebuttal is completely mum on one of the main complaints in Krauthammer's article - the creation of massive bureaucracies in the name of this so-called health care reform.
‘The fundamental problem with the 2,074-page Senate health-care bill (as with its 2,014-page House counterpart) is that it wildly compounds the complexity by adding hundreds of new provisions, regulations, mandates, committees and other arbitrary bureaucratic inventions,""Worse, they are packed into a monstrous package without any regard to each other. The only thing linking these changes -- such as the 118 new boards, commissions and programs -- is political expediency."
Amazingly, Pfeiffer seemed to embrace such bureaucracies in his response by suggesting such commissions and programs were an essential asset to health care 'reform'...
[And they are - when viewed through the prism of all private sector efforts being inherently evil...

POLL: Most Voters Still Oppose Health Care Legislation

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 49% are opposed to the plan.
Intensity is still stronger among those who oppose the push to change the nation’s health care system: 25% Strongly Favor the plan while 39% are Strongly Opposed.
Since July, support has generally remained between 41% and 46%. Last week, the effort was supported by 45% of voters. Two weeks ago, it was supported by 42%.
As has been the case for months, Democrats favor the plan while Republicans and voters not affiliated with either major party are opposed. The latest numbers show support from 79% of those in the president’s party. The plan is opposed by 78% of Republicans and 61% of unaffiliated voters.

So far Israel, has adamantly opposed abrogating the Oslo Accords, no matter what the provocation. After fifteen years of trying to negotiate a deal, perhaps its time for Israel to do so. The PA's unilateral declaration, should it happen, could be just the pretext, if a pretext is needed.

What might that be?
It would involve annexing parts, if not all, of Judea and Samaria. No land would have to be conquered. Israel has already annexed Jerusalem and the Golan. The Israelis could do the same for other settlements, such as Ariel and Maaleh Adumin, and perhaps the Jordan Valley. At a minimum, it would signal that these settlements, like Jerusalem, are non-negotiable.

POLL: Voters Continue to See Deficit Reduction as Top Priority

While official Washington has seen many twists and turns in the legislative process this year, voter priorities have remained unchanged.
Deficit reduction has remained number one for voters ever since President Obama listed his four top budget priorities in a speech to Congress in February. Forty-two percent (42%) say cutting the deficit in half by the end of the president's first term is most important, followed by 24% who say health care reform should be the top priority.
Fifteen percent (15%) say the emphasis should be on the development of new energy sources, while 13% say the same about education. Those figures have changed little from a month ago.
While voters have consistently seen deficit cutting as the most important, they also have seen it as the goal the president is least likely to achieve. Today, 62% hold that view.

Nor does the Constitution. So will Congress discriminate between foreign and domestic owners of U.S. treasuries? When commercial banks fail, will Congress allow the FDIC to renege on insured bank accounts? Or will Congress at long last make adjustments to entitlements?
Or will Congress tax the bejesus out of you? That's where that business about you being a slave comes in. Steyn again:
Joe Schmoe's credit card debt is as nothing compared to what the government's signed him up for: USA Today recently calculated that the average American household is on the hook for $546,668 in federal debt -- i.e., not including state and municipal. The Atlantic crunched the numbers further and reckoned that, to pay off the federal/personal debt over half a century at three per cent, the average household would have to write an annual cheque for $25,971.
Rather than putting the breaks on spending, Congress is hitting the accelerator with the "mother of all entitlements": government-run health care. Instead of backing away from the abyss, Congress is joining hands and jumping in.

Whistleblower: IEA Oil Forecast Is Bunk

Demand for energy will increase by 40 percent between now and 2030, yet an insider at the International Energy Association (IEA) warns that there just isn’t enough oil in the world to supply that need.
Presuming alternative energy sources aren’t easily developed or fall short of projections, and new oil production falters, much higher prices are inevitable, as experts including T. Boone Pickens have warned.
Pickens has repeatedly said that $300-a-barrel oil is in our future.
According to the agency’s just-released World Energy Outlook 2009, global oil consumption over the next five years will grow to just 88 million barrels a day, well below the 94 million barrels a day the agency forecast a year ago for total demand in 2015.
The energy watchdog’s figures are overly optimistic, according to a whistleblower within the agency, who describes IEA estimates of remaining oil supplies as more fiction than fact.
"Many inside the organization believe that maintaining oil supplies at even 90 million to 95 million barrels a day would be impossible but there are fears that panic could spread on the financial markets if the figures were brought down further,” the source told the UK Guardian.
The agency says a new global deal to limit carbon emissions could sharply curtail the growth in oil consumption in the years ahead as alternative energy resources and efficiency measures are tapped, The Wall Street Journal reports.
The report concludes that global agreement to reduce greenhouse gases could help restrain future crude oil price rises.
To do so, the global economy will need to invest $10.5 trillion in low-carbon energy technologies and energy efficiency to combat projected oil production declines, says the agency...

Regular readers shouldn't dismiss this special edition as just more of the same re: the Global Warming Canard. We've reached a critical point in this global attempt to use a false scientific premise as mechanism to seize governmental control of virtually all human activity and redistribute wealth on a global scale under the auspices of a de facto, unelected one world government.
The real story here isn't the exposure of the pervasive deception that has been perpetrated against humanity - that's been long known to anyone paying attention - but rather the race we find ourselves in to convince our so-called representatives that we're aware of their maleficence and will hold them accountable if they don't cease and desist in their machinations immediately.
Make no mistake; the power and money that will be won should they succeed in legislatively {in which I include international treaties} locking-in this lie are so vast as to warrant nearly any temporary embarrassment or condemnation - and so they {you know who they are} are intent on forcing this upon humanity safe in the knowledge that the power it garners them will make them all but immune to repercussions.
Like it or not YOU'RE in a fight for your children's future liberties - playing spectator won't suffice in this instance. As even a cursory review of the titles below proves, the only activity matching the scope of deception on this topic is its near black-out by major American media - and as multiple recent events have proven, the nearly-half of Americans that still get their 'news' from TV can be duped into believing anything {not the criticism it may sound when you consider they're only hearing one side's opinion on the issue} .
It therefore falls to those of us not so blinded to magnify our impact beyond our numbers by taking advantage of the power of the internet. PLEASE: Read, share with your friends, contact all your representatives and encourage them to do likewise. It will take government by the people to derail this monstrosity {in all its forms at all its levels} in its eleventh hour, and the enemies of liberty know the hour is late and are hurrying...

In Australia, government-driven scientific censorship is causing a backlash
Australia's right-of-center opposition Liberal Party is fighting over carbon taxes. And, conservatives aren't shutting up, even challenging their leader, Malcolm Turnbull, a cap-and-tax fundamentalist.
But there's a more divisive national issue here: freedom of speech.

The hacked emails from the Climatic Research Unit at the University of East Anglia show how far the rot has spread within the scientific community. I doubt the researchers involved view the issues in Hamilton's moralising terms. What is clear, however, is that these researchers regard scepticism as a dirty word.
Yet scepticism is the price knowledge pays for truth.We question our theories because that questioning is the means by which they will be displaced by better theories in future. The moment scepticism is abandoned for orthodoxy, scientific inquiry degenerates into pseudo-science, as with genetics in Trofim Lysenko's Soviet Union.
As a free-thinking individual, I reject all the-debate-is-over censors. So do many Australians.This "unhealthy climate of political orthodoxy," notes Ergas is also being promoted by Labor Prime Minister Kevin Rudd.

Australia is leading the revolt against Al Gore's great big AGW conspiracy - just as the Aussie geologist and AGW sceptic Professor Ian Plimer predicted it would.
ABC [Australia's] news reports that five frontbenchers from Australia's opposition Liberal party have resigned their portfolios rather than follow their leader Malcolm Turnbull in voting with Kevin Rudd's Government on a Emissions Trading Scheme.
The Liberal Party is in turmoil with the resignations of five frontbenchers from their portfolios this afternoon in protest against the emissions trading scheme.
Tony Abbott, Sophie Mirabella, Tony Smith and Senators Nick Minchin and Eric Abetz have all quit their portfolios because they cannot vote for the legislation.
Senate whip Stephen Parry has also relinquished his position...
So the anti-free speech movement is in big trouble, because more Australians say they're not going to shut up, cower in fear, or sacrifice their economic and social freedoms.
I see nothing wrong with intellectual diversity, and oppose all forms of government-driven scientific censorship. And, I recognize that blackmailing sections of the public will only last for so long. If PM Rudd continues to run on Gore's authoritarian the-debate-is-over pro-censorship platform, is he advertising his strengths or weaknesses?

Climategate Scandal Spreads to New Zealand as American MSM Continues Ostrich Act

Oops! If the mainstream media was hoping that the Climategate scandal would be limited to the University of East Anglia's Climate Reasearch Unit (CRU) in Norwich, England, they are out of luck. This scandal has now reared its ugly head on the other side of the globe at New Zealand's National Institute of Water and Atmospheric research (NIWA) which is that nation's chief climate advisory unit.

The scandal breaks as fears grow worldwide that corruption of climate science is not confined to just Britain’s CRU climate research centre.

The shocking truth is that the oldest readings have been cranked way down and later readings artificially lifted to give a false impression of warming, as documented below. There is nothing in the station histories to warrant these adjustments and to date Dr Salinger and NIWA have not revealed why they did this.
We have discovered that the warming in New Zealand over the past 156 years was indeed man-made, but it had nothing to do with emissions of CO2—it was created by man-made adjustments of the temperature [records].

Meanwhile, if the U.S. media ever pull their ostrich heads out of the sand [almost the words I used], they will have a huge amount of catching up to do in this scandal.

Yesterday Brian Williams delivered an NBC Nightly News report about President Obama attending the Copenhagen global warming summit. Guess what hot topic was left untouched? If you had guessed Climategate you would have been correct.
Not only Williams but also the other TV networks, with the exception of FOX News, have completely ignored what is considered to be the biggest scientific scandal in history. However, new Climategate revelations made by the Canada Free Press about a White House connection to the scandal will soon make it much more difficult (and ridiculous) for the networks to ignore.

Baliunas and Soon were authors of excellent work confirming the existence of the Medieval Warm Period (MWP) from a multitude of sources. Their work challenged attempts to get rid of the MWP because it contradicted the claim by the proponents of anthropogenic global warming (AGW). Several scientists challenged the claim that the latter part of the 20th century was the warmest ever. They knew the claim was false, many warmer periods occurred in the past.
Michael Mann ‘got rid’ of the MWP with his production of the hockey stick, but Soon and Baliunas were problematic. What better than have a powerful academic destroy their credibility for you? Sadly, there are always people who will do the dirty work... [snip]

Climate change 'isn't caused by us'

limate change has mainly natural causes and the human contribution is too small to detect, said global warming expert Professor Fred Singer.
He told a debate in London organised by the free market think tank the Institute of Economic Affairs, the climate has not warmed in the past decade, despite the fact carbon dioxide was increasing rapidly. Singer, of the science and environmental policy project at the University of Virginia, told the event the climate has both warmed and cooled over the past century. Burning fossil fuels had enriched the atmosphere with carbon dioxide, because it was what plants live on.
"Maybe we should thank the Chinese for putting more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere instead of worrying about it,"
Singer said one school of thought was the warming of the earth in the 20th century was caused by humans, though greenhouse gases, but he believes that while there must be a human contribution it was not detectable, as it was too small.
He suggested people should be suspicious of any science where there was a consensus and concluded:
"I am not worried about climate change, not at all. We know how to adapt to climate change better than our ancestors, we have the means to adapt to both cold and warm climates.
"The only thing I am scared of is politicians who in their zeal to 'save the climate' will introduce policies that will ruin the economy."
Former chancellor Nigel Lawson, who has set up a think tank called the Global Warming Policy foundation, said technology for adaptation has never been better, and there are huge benefits from a warming planet, including for health and food production. Even if global agreement was reached to decarbonise, it would slow down growth in the world, including in developing countries.
"You are condemning tens and tens of millions in the developing world to unnecessary poverty, malnutrition and premature death and disease."
However, Dr Sam Fankhauser of London School of Economics, a member of the UK Committee on Climate Change, said a target of 50 per cent cut in emissions was both sensible and achievable.
Scientists were 90 per cent sure there was a problem, and it would be unwise and careless not to take precautionary measures.
But the IPCC has no scientific evidence and the theory relies solely on the output of climate models that according to the information in table 2.11 of the 2007 report cannot possibly be accurate.
Surely Dr Fankhauser knows that opinions aren't evidence and that scientific truth isn't determined by votes.

What's notably lacking in Revkin's report, Curry's letter, and many other Climategate-related establishment media reports is any willingness to entertain the notion that the scandal completely undermines the scientific basis for the argument that AGW (anthropogenic global warming) is occurring.
It seems that no one will dare say that the pathetic state of the data described in the leaked e-mails and the demonstrated willingness of those who control it to massage it hollows out the entire core of the AGW argument.
Given that those caught red-handed cooking the books and playing hide-and-seek with the data have yet to see any meaningful sanctions or discipline for what they have done, students would logically fear that if they fight for scientific values when they are compromised by political factors, they will be fighting alone and ostracized by their peers...
