In another sign that Ford was recovering from a deep downturn, Tuesday it reported that it earned $2.1 billion in the first quarter of 2010. The company was helped by a strong turnaround in its North American auto operations, which had an operating profit of almost $1.3 billion compared to a loss of nearly $665 million a year earlier.
