US Military provides disaster relief to Philippines

The U.S. military is rapidly responding to provide critically needed supplies in support of disaster relief to help mitigate human suffering and prevent further loss of life as a result of Tropical Storm Ketsana that struck the Philippines Sept. 25.

"Marines and sailors are working with the Philippine Government to rapidly deliver humanitarian assistance and disaster relief to the areas the Philippine Government deems most in need,"

said Lt. Col. Douglas Powell, III Marine Expeditionary Force spokesman.

Medical personnel attached to the MEU set up a medical civil affairs program (MEDCAP) at an elementary school in Marikina City Oct. 1 that provided care for more than 760 medical and dental patients. In Quezon City Oct 1, a food distribution mission provided more than 2,400 meals for residents who were without meals...
