Conservative journalist and author David Horowitz spoke at the University of California, San Diego, last week. During the Q-and-A session, student Jumanah Imad Albahri, communications director of UCSD's Muslim Students Association, was incensed by Horowitz's assertion that campus Muslim groups may be connected to terrorist organizations. Horowitz responded by asking if Albahri would condemn Palestinian terror organization Hamas, "here and now."

She refused.

So it's not surprising at least one of Albahri's teachers claims she's been victimized.

"I'm saddened that this speaker -- her elder -- manipulated the conversation in this fashion to make her look like someone she isn't, out of an egotistical desire to prove his own point, rather than engaging in a constructive dialogue. A perfect example of why the peace process is limping forward so painfully,"

wrote Anita Casavantes Bradford, who has taught Albahri.

In other words, the people who don't agree with Hitler are the ones holding up the Mideast peace process.

Got it. Today's college students are getting the lesson loud and clear -- even genocide is a post-modern construct.

Professors will no doubt continue to teach that ideas are relative. But no academic is clever enough to wish away the terrible consequences that will befall us when we're unable to recognize pure evil when we see it...

The Increasing Nothingness of Europe

Europe once was a traditional continent filled with traditional countries. There were real nations to which real people gave allegiance. Perhaps too much allegiance, given the wars which afflicted modern Europe. Nevertheless, politicians were nominally accountable to voters. Governments had responsibility for economic policy. International cooperation started with countries and moved upward and outward.

This world has virtually disappeared. Today when speaking of Europe most people think of the European Union, a collective bureaucracy run by life-term bureaucrats beholden to no one.

Since European integration began in 1951 with creation of the European Coal and Steel Community, the question has been: Will there be a Europe of states or a state of Europe? The euro is part of the attempt to create the latter, a Leviathan constructed from the surrendered sovereignties of Europe's nations.

Unfortunately, the Leviathan seems likely to continue growing. That means the ultimate destruction of traditional Europe.

There's only one important question for Americans: Can we avoid the same fate?

What was behind Barack Obama's recent remarks to the graduating class of Hampton University? What "information" must Americans fear? FCC Chief Diversity Officer Mark Lloyd foretold Obama's meaning in a coauthored 2007 Center for American Progress (CAP) 'report'. The report complained that 91 percent of talk radio was conservative.

Another factor motivating Obama administration focus on information flow is the demise of the massively liberal "dinosaur" media -- mainly newspapers and broadcast TV. Stir in the downward spiral of liberal cable news outlets like MSNBC as well as the embarrassing face-plant of progressive talk radio's Air America, and it becomes clear why Obama and the FCC are nervous.

Nerves are frying over how "the layoff of thousands of journalists" might result in "fewer ‘informed communities.'" As liberal-dominated media continue to atrophy, progressive propaganda will less reliably reach communities that get progressive "helping" programs that convince voters to elect progressives to keep the help flowing.

Losing the iron grip that progressives have on "oppressed" and "disadvantaged" American voters is not something that Barack Obama can bear. Media filters must be tightened. According to the President, only certain "information" should reach the people. Perhaps soon, the noble FCC will save Americans from bad information, the information that "has become a distraction."

AP Won't Dare Compare: April Deficit Report Ignores Huge April '07 and '08 Surpluses, Covers Up Chilling Receipt Drops

Obama graduated from Harvard Law School in 1991; Kagan in 1986. Kagan joined the faculty at the University of Chicago Law School in 1991 and became a full professor there in 1995. Obama taught constitutional law there from 1992 to 2004.

They have other things in common. Unusually for top law students who go on to teach law, they have published little: Kagan has written just five law review articles; Obama none. Nor, from all the accounts, has either of them expressed, even in conversation, opinions on many burning legal issues.

The Palestinian lack of interest in the latest version of the “peace process” is palpable. A year ago, Israel announced that it wanted immediate negotiations without preconditions; formally affirmed a two-state solution as the goal of the negotiations; and took an unprecedented step to help them start. The Palestinians refused to commence negotiations intended to give them a state, still refuse to attend them in person, and are willing only to let the Obama administration negotiate for them. They have discovered that saying “no we can’t” produces not criticism of them but pressure on Israel to make more concessions, followed by congratulations to the Palestinians.

The slight to Israel is obvious, but there is an additional reason for the ostentatious treatment of Abbas. Mead notes that the “Middle East peace process is the longest running piece of diplomatic theater on the world stage,” dating from 1919 (with a two-state solution proposed by the Jews and rejected by the Arabs), with repeated failures caused by the continuing Arab goal of one state rather than two.

A tax increase next year could easily derail the current fragile expansion. The economic upturn since last summer has been nurtured by Federal Reserve credit like the mortgage purchase program and by the fiscal incentives such as the tax credits for car buyers and first-time home buyers that are now coming to an end, says Feldstein:

• Eighty percent of the latest quarterly gross domestic product (GDP) increase consisted of a rise in consumer spending that was the result of an unrepeatable sharp drop in the saving rate.
• Without that decline in the saving rate, the first-quarter annual GDP growth rate would have been less than 1 percent.
• A 2011 tax increase that reduces economic incentives and household spending would raise the risk of a new economic downturn.

Raising their tax rates would be a substantial blow to overall spending and therefore to GDP growth. Small business investment and hiring would also be adversely affected because half of all profits, including most of small business income, is taxed at personal rates rather than at the corporate rate, says Feldstein.

While politicians struggle against an anti-incumbent mood sweeping the country, a plurality of Americans are looking beyond the government to find solutions for the nation’s problems.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 44% believe volunteer activities and organizations are more likely than new government programs to bring about the change needed in the United States - 7 points more than feel the opposite.

Data released yesterday showed that voters overwhelmingly believe that, in terms of being a good citizen, volunteering for churches and community groups is more important than getting involved in politics and government.

“Americans are looking for hope and change today just as much as they did during Election 2008,” said Scott Rasmussen, president of Rasmussen Reports. “Many, however, have come to believe that if we have to rely upon politicians for the change, there is no hope.”

Other recent polling has shown that just 21% of voters believe the government today has the consent of the governed.
