Iran Sneaking in Nuclear Equipment

Subject: txt nsec intl china -
Early last year, a Chinese company placed an order with a Taiwanese agent for 108 nuclear-related pressure gauges. But something happened along the way. Paperwork was backdated. Plans were rerouted, orders reconfigured, shipping redirected.

And the gauges ended up in a very different place: Iran.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Ma Zhaoxu said he was unaware of the pressure gauge deal.

In Shanghai, Roc-Master official Liu Xiaofeng initially said he didn't recall the transaction. But when pressed, he replied,

"It's our company's secret information, so I don't think we need to tell the media anything about it."

White House Land Grab

You'd think the Obama administration is busy enough controlling the banks, insurance companies and automakers, but thanks to whistleblowers at the Department of the Interior, we now learn they're planning to increase their control over energy-rich land in the West.

A secret administration memo has surfaced revealing plans for the federal government to seize more than 10 million acres from Montana to New Mexico, in a move toward halting job-creating activities involving mining and energy development.

At a time when our national unemployment rate is 9.7 percent, it is unbelievable anyone would be looking to stop job-creating energy enterprises, yet that's exactly what's happening...

The West and the 10th

In 1906 President Theodore Roosevelt got the Antiquities Act (AA) passed in Congress, legislation designed to protect archeological sites, and giving presidents executive power for preservation purposes.

But the ever-shrewd TR knew that the new law would be useful to do more than just preserve ancient Indian settlement sites or shards of pottery. For good or ill, the only Republican president who is admired by modern Greens used it to close off vast tracts of the American West to economic "exploitation."

All this begs the question as to the constitutionality of legislation such as the Antiquities Act.

How can a president by executive fiat create national monuments in some states, but in others -- such as Wyoming, Alaska, and maybe in the future, Utah -- has powers limited by Congressional legislation?

Are any of the legal nuances involved here in violation of the 10th Amendment? I don't know, I'm not a constitutional scholar. Chief Justice Roberts?

"Looking at the United States of America, the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) clearly warned that unchecked global warming will lead to reduced snowpack in the western mountains, critically reducing access to water, which is our lifeblood."

So global warming simultaneously causes mountain snow to vanish and Himalayan glaciers to recede while blanketing the northeastern United States with snowfalls breaking 100 year records.

Clearly, this is an untenable position. One phenomenon cannot simultaneously produce two different results...

How Bad Is the Indoctrination in Our Colleges?

Subject: txt edu -
Let me begin by stating what I believe indoctrination to be and what it is not. Indoctrination is presenting opinion to students as though it were scientific fact or as though no rational, decent, and moral person could have any other view. It is the equivalent of presenting students with ready-made conclusions which they cannot realistically feel free to challenge. There are entire fields of study that are in fact programs of indoctrination.

For example, all Women’s Studies programs with which I am familiar are programs to train students to be radical feminists and specifically to instill in them the doctrine that gender differences are “socially constructed” – that they are artificially created by male elites to subordinate and oppress women.

The social construction of gender is not taught as a theory that students in Women’s Studies courses are free to adopt or reject. It is taught in the same way university courses in physics teach Newton’s laws of motion. When, at a recent academic conference, I confronted the president of the American Association of University Professors over this very issue, he replied that he did indeed teach the social construction of gender as a scientific fact...

Recently the Obama Administration cut funding to Upward Bound, a successful educational program with a proven track record. Upward Bound provides support to participating students in their preparation for college entrance. Upward Bound serves high school students from low-income families and high school students from families in which neither parent holds a bachelor’s degree. 95% of Upward Bound graduates have entered post-secondary education and are four times more likely to earn a college degree than students from similar back-grounds who do not participate in the program.

At the same time, despite the runaway federal spending and record budget deficits, Barack Obama is including $410 million in the 2011 budget for his “safe schools” czar Kevin Jennings. This is an increase of $45 million over last year’s budget. These additional funds ought to buy a more child porn books and the sexual indoctrination of teens and pre-teens...

The Re-Establishment of America

Subject: txt 1st 2010 lbrty -

... Most of the time, we Americans don't pay much attention to politics. We focus all of our energy on our jobs, our families, and our faith. We work hard, play by the rules, and wish only to be left alone. We love our country, consider ourselves blessed to be living here, and ask little from the men and women we elect except to keep from screwing things up.

But in just the last decade, Americans were shocked by two catastrophes we hadn't imagined our political establishment would allow to happen. The first was 9-11, when nineteen terrorists successfully attacked our homeland, and by doing so revealed that for years, al-Qaeda and its allies had been waging holy war against us. The second was the 2008 financial crash, which revealed that our economy is a house of cards built on a pile of debt so high we cannot possibly repay it.

Republicans blame Democrats, and Democrats blame Republicans. To ordinary, non-political Americans -- who grasp intuitively, and correctly, that both parties share responsibility for these two catastrophes -- these politicians seem like children who've turned a party into a food fight. And what do parents do when a children's party gets out of control? They turn off the music, turn out the lights, and send everyone home... [snip]

The re-establishment of America won't be easy, and we'll make mistakes along the way. Some of the new people will prove just as worthless as they ones they replaced. And some very good people who now hold key positions in politics, the media, education, and finance will be swept away by the avalanche. That's too bad, but collateral damage is unavoidable.

No other country in history has ever attempted to replace its establishments so smoothly and so peacefully -- and so cheerfully -- as we are doing right now. And it isn't likely that any other country ever will attempt something like this. How exhilarating to realize that 234 years after our revolution, the United States is still the most dynamic, forward-looking, optimistic place on Earth.

Boy, what an exciting time to be an American.

ZAZI, who pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy to use weapons of mass destruction on Monday, was identified by federal authorities as a key player in what has been described as the most serious terror plot since 9/11. Rather, Napolitano spoke of the “need to study and analyze the motivation behind these extremists", something that I thought should have been quite obvious based on the amount and type of evidence uncovered in that case...

Drop Climate Change Initiatives, Save TRILLIONS

"There has been no statistically significant warming since 1995."

So finally admits Professor Phil Jones, former director of England's University of East Anglia's Climate Research Unit (CRU) and primary contributor to the IPCC 'reports' claiming to 'prove' a link between Global Warming and CO2 emissions only actually observed in climate models create for that purpose.

In a statement on its Web site, the CRU said:

“We do not hold the original raw data but only the value-added (i.e., manipulated) data.”

Many climatologists believe the raw data records were deliberately destroyed, leaving only "homogenized" and "synopsized" versions of what was contained in the original records — "doctored" data used in graphs to 'show' that carbon dioxide (CO2), a substance in the Earth's atmosphere on which all life on the planet depends, as the culprit in "man-made" global warming.

It did not take long for politicians to seize upon the opportunity to make global warming a tax issue. Politicians are talking about a human carbon "footprint" narrowing the CO2 issue down to individual citizens, making their carbon use a marketable commodity.

Europe has established such a market, and opportunists in America have seized upon the global warming issue and are turning it into private businesses for their own profit. Schemes that are being advanced to diminish t carbon dioxide in the atmosphere are terrifying when the costs of such solutions are calculated. Costs have been estimated to be in the trillions to sequester CO2... [snip]

Can man even cause global warming? This question has not been legitimately answered. And even if he could, a warmer planet by less than 1 degree centigrade in 140 years is not life-threatening - in fact it's beneficial to man.

The nation will eventually come to recognize the simple fact that man does not contribute to the warming of the planet in any appreciable amount, and that carbon dioxide, a trace in the atmosphere, has never been scientifically shown to cause global warming - in fact science shows what increases the planet experiences on a cyclical basis are the effect, and not the cause, of warming.

Anyone sincerely concerned with the welfare of man made aware of the facts surrounding this issue will quickly conclude that world needs to step back and recognize that the real threat to our welfare are the self-serving actions be proposed, and not the inaction being portrayed as culprit...

A NEW APPROACH TO HEALTH REFORM

Subject: txt hcare XFERED? "" in yahoo mail? NNB links?
Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) has an idea to fix health reform. In his "Road Map for America's Future," reintroduced this month:

  • Americans would take refundable tax credits -- $2,300 for singles and $5,700 for families -- and choose private insurance.
  • All insurance plans that are licensed in a particular state would be eligible, and each company would be free to set its own premiums.
  • Low-income individuals would get extra tax credits so they could buy the same kind of health care as other Americans.

What about Medicare?

  • Medicare would remain the same for current beneficiaries and for those 55 and older when they reach 65.
  • But when those born in 1955 or later become eligible for Medicare at age 65, their plan would change.
  • They would receive $11,000, adjusted for inflation, to buy a Medicare certified plan.
  • Those with lower incomes or with more serious health conditions would receive more funding.

Further:

  • Health insurance companies could offer high-deductible plans carrying lower premiums combined with health savings accounts, or more traditional managed care or fee-for-service plans.
  • Persons with high-cost chronic illnesses, such as hemophilia or diabetes, would be placed in special affordable state high risk pools, with subventions paid by the government.

On Wednesday, Congressional Budget Office Director Douglas Elmendorf wrote to Ryan to tell him that this plan reduced health care costs and the federal deficit. He said:

"Under the proposal, national health expenditures would almost certainly be lower than they would under the alternative fiscal scenario. Federal spending for health care would be substantially lower, relative to the amount in that scenario, for working-age people and the Medicare population."

  • It would also allow individuals and businesses to form pools and buy insurance anywhere in the country, not just in the state where they live.
  • This will greatly expand the choices of coverage available to consumers and will also encourage broader competition and diversity among insurers.
  • Along with practically every other plan, Democratic and Republican, the conservative plan would require insurance companies to offer insurance regardless of a person's pre-existing medical condition.

THE RYAN PLAN

"Having the government compete against the private sector is kind of like my seven-year-old daughter's lemonade stand competing against McDonalds"
Congressman Paul Ryan (R-Wis.)

Ryan argues that providing every American with a tax-free voucher specifically for the purchase of health insurance not only levels the playing field, but puts consumers in the position to make the health care choices that make sense to them.

Obviously, a lot of disentanglement would have to take place there involving regulations that have taken root over the years in all 50 states, but this is true consumer empowerment long overdue...

Obscured by the Administration's theatrics is the fact that it has kept at bay those who advocate free-market solutions rather than government-run health care.

The guest list to the [prior] 'summit' was a telling sign. Despite having representatives from 169 different labor, industry, and policy organizations, the White House did not invite any organizations that advocate a consumer-based free-market approach to health care.

A SECOND NEW APPROACH TO HEALTH REFORM

Subject: txt hcare -
The Empowering Patients First Act, H.R. 3400, sponsored by Rep. Tom Price (R-Ga.), a physician and chairman of the House Republican Study Committee, would insure more people and cut costs:

  • It would insure more people by letting individuals take tax deductions for health insurance premiums that they pay, just as employers do.
  • Workers with employer-paid insurance could retain it.
  • Low-income individuals would be given refundable tax credits in advance to help them pay premiums.
  • States would be required to set up subsidized risk pools for those with chronic conditions who might otherwise be uninsurable.

The most innovative aspect of the Price bill:

  • It allows -- but does not require -- employers to offer a monetary sum to workers so that they can purchase whatever insurance plan they choose in the open market, similar to defined contribution pension plans.
  • Employers would still enjoy the same tax benefit for providing coverage, tax-free to the employee, but workers would be able to choose from an entire range of options, policies that they could carry with them when they change jobs.
  • Now employees are generally limited to one plan, sponsored by their employer, and lose that coverage when they change jobs.

The contrast with the Democrats' health care plan could not be starker.
